Weekly Kindness Practice

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything,
but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything,
I will not refuse to do something that I can do.  Edward Everett Hale

Week of November 4
Love and accept yourself, appreciating the person you are, just the way you are.

Week of October 28
Show up for people. Stand with them. Ask if they need anything or wait until they ask for assistance. Being present, witnessing, radiating compassion, that is often the perfect action.

Week of October 21
Take a moment before you speak to ask yourself, Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Speak only if the answer to all three questions is yes.

Week of October 14
Each morning as you begin your day, take a few minutes to complete the Buddhist loving kindness practice. Details are below: "May you be filled with loving kindness, may you be well. May you be peaceful and at ease. May you be happy."

Week of October 7
Use a dry erase marker to write a note of appreciation and support on the mirror -- for yourself or for a partner or roommate.

Week of September 30
Invite the businesses where you shop to post the United in Kindness Welcome poster. Here is the link to download it.

Week of September 23
"Just listen." Give someone the gift of your sincere curiosity and presence. It might be a child, a colleague, a partner, a person you meet by chance. Take the time to be present to hear what matters to them.

Week of September 16
When considering what might happen, give at least equal time to good possible outcomes.

Week of September 9
Drink your water from a reuseable container. If you must buy it in a plastic bottle, please recycle.

Week of September 2
Write a thank you note. It matters.

Week of August 26
Notice and practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.

Week of August 19
Show your respect to people. Take time to look again, to see beyond your first impressions.

Week of August 12
Take time to look those who serve you, checkers, clerks, wait staff. Look them in the eye then thank them for their service.

Week of August 5

This week, let your government leaders know how you feel about gun violence. Don't rant, reflect deeply, then speak from your heart's truth. Contact info is in the main blog.

Week of July 29
When you see a homeless person, say hello. If you're driving by and aren't giving money, give a smile and a nod. It may be the first time someone has seen them that day.

Week of July 22
Don't should on yourself this week. Appreciate all of you, including those moments that seem imperfect, the cranky "don't wannas," along with the delight and wonder that also appear. Love yourself up, just the way you are.

Week of Jul 15
Our planet needs our loving awareness. This week, do your best not to use any plastic bags. You may be surprised to notice how often you have been using them.

Week of July 8
Kindness does because it's kind, not because there is an expectation of a return. This week do something kind for someone, without an agenda, simply because you choose to be kind.

Monday, July 1
Kindness comes most easily when we are filled up with a sense of the goodness all around us. This week at the end of the day, take note of three acts of kindness you noticed. Consider creating a Kindness journal for you to savor when you are in need of renewal.
